Art Downtown at LOT 19 Vancouver

Due to Covid-19 we have been exploring new ways to support our artists and safely involve the community in the arts, which we hope we can achieve through Art Downtown. The program will consist of artists creating and showcasing their artwork to the public every Wednesday at Lot 19 and every Friday at Cathedral Square from 11AM - 2PM. The program will begin on Wednesday 17th June at Lot 19, and will continue every week until September 11th.

We have partnered with the DVBIA on this project because they work to revitalize public spaces in downtown Vancouver through their Placemaking Projects. Their aim is to bring the community together in welcoming and inspiring locations across the city, which is why we are excited to be working with them on Art Downtown. We want to transform the two locations of Lot 19 and Cathedral Square into creative, inspiring and positive areas for the public to connect with art, and where artists can showcase their talent and sell their work.

Dates: Wednesday 17th June - Friday 11th September, every Wednesday and Friday.

Times: 11AM - 2PM

Locations: Lot 19 (855 W Hastings Street) and Cathedral Square (566 Richards Street)

Art Masters: Canada Day Special

8 Artists, 1 Theme, 1 Hour and 1 Box of supplies

On Wednesday, July 1st from 12 pm - 1 pm, we will be presenting another instalment of Art Masters in celebration of Canada Day, which will coincide with Art Downtown at Lot 19. Art Masters is sponsored by Opus Art Supplies and is an exciting art competition where artists can showcase their creative talents.

Art Masters asks 8 professional artists to create a piece of artwork based on a theme (which will be announced on the day), using one mystery toolbox filled with unconventional painting tools. They will have just one hour to create a piece of art based on this theme, requiring them to unleash their creative skills and imagination within an exciting environment.

Following this, the audience will be asked to vote for their favourite piece based on its creativity and originality, and a winner will be announced. The artworks will then be auctioned off, with proceeds going to the Vancouver Visual Art Foundation. After the competition, there will be live music and artists exhibiting and selling their artwork until 2pm.

We hope you can join us in celebrating Canada Day while supporting local artists.
