Shya-fen Tsai, artist
Born in Taiwan, Shya-fen Tsai has lived and worked in Canada for over 40 years, receiving her professional art training in painting and sculpture from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design.
Strongly influenced by Cezanne, Gauguin and Picasso, her early work depicted post – impressionist qualities, which helped her later in developing her own abstract practices.
Working with acrylic and mixed media, and her combination of bold and delicate brush work and unique colour applications, you will find that familiar yet mysterious ambiance in her new work.
She is trying to bring out her viewer’s emotions while inviting them to experience a new relationship to the world they are in.
Shya-fen Tsai has shown her work internationally and has often been invited to speak about her art. She is an artist who tries to create paintings that evoke the intangible, but makes the intangible tangible.
