Johan Andersson, a Swedish artist based in Los Angeles, is a graduate of Central Saint Martins, a London based art school. He is the youngest artist to win third prize for the BP Portrait Award, an annual portrait competition held at the UK’s National Portrait Gallery. In 2008, he was selected for the Jerwood Charitable Foundation’s Contemporary Painter’s Prize and named as one of The Independent’s top 20 Artists of 2008.
Andersson has exhibited his work alongside notable artists such as, Anish Kapoor, Tracey Emin, Sarah Lucas, Gavin Turk and Howard Hodgkin. In 2010 he was selected to exhibit his work in support of Break Through Breast Cancer at Britain’s V & A Museum, arguably the world’s leading museum of modern art.
Andersson has exhibited and sold his art on the international art market including, The Scope Art Fair in Basel and Cutlog, a contemporary art fair in Paris. Past exhibits include, The Royal West Museum and Saatchi Gallery London. His work has been on display throughout London underground stations including Bond Street, Baker Street and South Kensington.
In 2011 he was featured in a documentary by Sky Arts called the “Art of Survival” and was selected as a top 100 most influential creatives by Time Out. His work is held in the private collections of George Lucas and Eugene Tenenbaum, director of the Chelsea Soccer Club.
