Crazy – easy beginner paint class. Learn how to create a sunset background using sweeping, glazing, water, cloth , fingers and various brushes to seamlessly blend colour – known in the biz as a ” Colour Wash” technique.

From Noon to 1:30, we will paint the background. Then, grab a bite and a glass of wine and wander the fantastic show at Art! Vancouver. Return to the class at 3:00 to paint the silhouette and learn how black isn’t really black and how to put texture into a solid colour to create interest until 4:00. Each student will leave with their beautiful painting on 11 by 14 inch canvas ready to proudly hang! (Please keep in mind it will still be wet.) If you are already an experienced painter, you will find this class boring…well, ok, I’m fun, but the painting will be boring. On the other hand, if you are a complete novice (like hey, what’s the difference between acrylic paint and oil paint?), then this class is for you. Or if you are a totally talented Arteest and you just want to spend your time doing what you love, then COME ON DOWN and teach me a thing or two!

Participants to bring: Apron or paint clothes, old rag or cloth for wiping your brush, canvas, hand and oermission to fail – it’s only paint! Leave your inner critic at home.

Being relatively new to Vancouver, I was instantly struck by the beautiful nature and wildlife that surrounds the city. I have become particularly captivated by the Herons of Stanley Park. After conducting some research I found that in North America the heron is a symbol of curiosity, self reliance and self determination – which makes it the perfect subject matter for this class!

Please join me for a 90 minute beginners induction to acrylic painting. By following my guidance and easy steps you will learn some basic acrylic painting techniques and will finish the class with your very own heron painting just like this one (10in x 14in). I am a former UK Art Teacher with 10 years of teaching experience – teaching students aged 11yrs to 18yrs. I am passionate about art education and I look forward to welcoming you to my class!

The cost of the class: $30 (All proceeds go to The Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre) Please book now as places are limited.

Participants to bring: All of the materials and equipment will be provided. I recommend that you bring an apron or an old shirt to protect your clothes.

Have you seen this newest craze in art? – Alcohol Ink on Yupo Paper or Ceramic Tile.

This colour is pure pigment in an alcohol medium. They are incredibly vibrant and mix without getting muddy. Capturing the fluid movement and depth by blowing air on the liquid colour, tilting your substrate and layering produces an entirely captivating artwork.

This class is really about just playing and exploring this medium. There is no precise goal other than getting your hands dirty experimenting with these products. And, get yourself a glass of wine if you like at the wine bar and bring it to class!

NOTE: Rubbing Alcohol is the medium used in this class and the odour of this permeates the area. If you are sensitive to this, please do not attend.
